IHCenter is pleased to be a listed and active participant with:
Amigos Support La MICA
Amigos Support La MICA will
encourage much needed conservation of the flora, fauna, habitat, and
culture of Parque Nacional G. D. Omar Torrijos Herrera, Coclé Province,
Republic of Panama, through research, education, outreach, and the
exchange of such between the local people and worldwide visitors.
Parque Nacional G. D. Omar
Torrijos Herrera (PNGDOTH) is located in Coclé Province in the Republic
of Panama. The park straddles the Continental Divide and encompasses
25,275 hectares of lowland, mid-land, and montane Pacific and Atlantic
habitat. PNGDOTH is rich in biodiversity, local culture, and Panamanian
history. Amigos Support La MICA
will work to help preserve the habitat, flora, fauna, and culture of
PNGDOTH. Such efforts will be facilitated by the development of
La MICA Biological Station (La Montaña para Investigación y
Conservación Ambiental or the Mountain for Research and Environmental
Conservation) and the programs of research, education, and outreach
that will be conducted through the station. La MICA will be
constructed, operated, and supported primarily by the local people of
PNGDOTH, thus bringing sustainable, conservation-oriented work to this
impoverished area of central Panama. The exchange of information and
opportunities that will occur will positively impact people from around
the world and promise to make a real difference in conservation and
humanity.
