The Los Angeles Social Forum (LASF) will create a space for
activists, social movements, networks, and other progressive forces in
southern California to share their cultural and ideological diversity,
experiences and strategies, and integrate their struggles from the
local to the global.

Continuing the progressive traditions of the World Social Forums
begun at Porto Alegre', Brazil in 2001, where construction was
initiated of a counter-vision to the domination of neoliberal capital
and the rule of empire and thus rooted in the values of peace,
community, democracy, environmental and economic justice, the Los Angeles Social Forum will work
to integrate struggles from local and international issues of
globalization that have its roots in the corporate led global economic
system which unravels human rights and human decency. Los Angeles is
ground zero for many movement struggles concerning; a lack of health
care, attacks against immigrants, citizens and their rights; dangerous
working conditions and a living wage; contamination of poor communities
by corporate decision; and violation of minority and indigenous
sovereignty. Peasants (farm workers), immigrants, youth, women,
GLBT community and other oppressed peoples in Los Angeles would benefit
from networking and coordinating common projects and strategies in
common cause.
